We have an exceptional opportunity for an experienced physician executive to serve as Medical Director for a large health maintenance organization (HMO) in New England.  This role reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer and is responsible for recommending, developing, and implementing new utilization management strategies based on the needs of the HMO.

The Medical Director will work closely with the Director and Manager of Health Services to identify areas of under- and overutilization.  He/she will also represent the HMO to a variety of external constituencies, including providers, employers, and brokers, as well as oversee high-cost case management report development, and develop care guidelines to decrease care variation.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented leader, well-versed in establishing programs to improve the quality and standard of care within a managed care environment.  Strong clinical competency (at least 5 years of post-residency clinical experience), post-graduate training in either business or healthcare administration, and a solid understanding of contemporary information technologies are required, in addition to a medical degree with board certification.

A passion for performance and process improvement, and its link to quality and cost outcomes, is essential.
