Chief Nursing Officer
Chief Nursing Officer A community-based teaching hospital in Boston seeks a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the CNO is an integral member of the hospital leadership team and will have specific responsibility for managing and directing the areas related to nursing services for the institution as well as for developing the proper structure to deliver the highest quality care to patients. This executive will establish a strong leadership role for nursing services within the institution as well as with professional ancillary services, members of the medical staff, and administration. Additionally, the CNO will be viewed as an advocate of the patient and of nursing by the nursing, medical, and administrative staffs. This individual will provide development opportunities for all staff and will build a progressive team dedicated to the provision of high-quality care and services to patients, physicians, and colleagues throughout the organization.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a seasoned, operationally sound, and financially savvy nursing leader with a demonstrated track record as a Vice President of Nursing or an experienced Nursing Director with a broad scope of responsibility for nursing services and programs. He/she will display a passion and commitment to patient care and quality improvement, along with an understanding of the business side of nursing and the need to creatively manage finances and resources. The ideal candidate possesses strong strategic and critical-thinking skills, and will be an effective contributor to the senior leadership team. In addition, he/she will possess a master’s degree in nursing; licensed or eligible for licensure as a professional nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; and seven to ten years’ significant management experience in nursing and hospital operations, with significant experience gained within a complex hospital environment, union experience required. The Organization: The Medical Center is a member of the second largest healthcare system in Massachusetts which is comprised of six hospitals and five subacute facilities. As a teaching hospital, it offers sophisticated and comprehensive medical care to patients around New England each year, and is a premier medical research institution.
